College Advising
What is Advising?
At the University of Florida, the academic advising process is a collaborative effort between the you, the student and your academic adviser.
Role of the Advisor:
The advisor’s role is to support and advise students as they pursue their academic goals. advisers are prepared to answer questions about academic policies and procedures, clarify major requirements, and help students develop plans for completing those requirements. Academic advisors are also prepared to offer information about important resources and opportunities available at UF.
Role of the Student:
At the University of Florida, students are responsible for knowing their major requirements as well as critical dates. Specific degree requirements are listed in the UF catalog. Students should come to advising appointments prepared by reviewing their degree audit each semester. Students should have an outline of the classes they plan to take so the adviser can confirm if these are the best choices. Students are asked to maintain a GatorLink e-mail address and read official university correspondence sent to this address.
Each college and school has academic advisors who are there to assist you. Some colleges have departmental or major specific advisers who can provide even more specific information about related curricular and extra curricular opportunities available to you.
Your academic advisers are often your best source of information about requirements in your major or requirements if you are planning to change majors.
Academic advising is a great resource for all UF students. If you have suggestions about how to make it better, please e-mail your suggestions.
